Good point in this blog post. You can network all you want with just the right people. And you don't want to come off as too pushy--demanding that somebody drop everything and find you a job.
But on the other hand, if you want help, you do need to ask. Frame your requests civilly, politely, reasonably. Be willing to take "no" for an answer--since after all, it's a request rather than a command.
And see what happens.
